Graduates can work in areas such as environmental and nature conservation, urban and spatial planning, transportation and infrastructure development or geographic information systems (GIS). Further employment opportunities arise in market and location analysis, tourism and regional development as well as in disaster prevention and climate impact research.       Geography is a natural science of the earth and a cultural science of everyday society and is concerned with physical and social environments. Geography strives to describe, analyze and understand natural-spatial and socio-economic processes and interrelationships between the given compartments of the earth and humans in order to plan and shape future developments. The special features and strengths of geography therefore lie in the synergetic combination of natural and social science perspectives and methods. On the one hand, physical processes and structures on the earth's surface and in the atmosphere are analyzed from a natural science perspective (in sub-disciplines such as Geography and Climate, Geomorphology and Soil Geography) and on the other hand, spaces are examined as a social phenomenon from a social and Cultural Studies perspective (in sub-disciplines such as Social, Settlement and Economic Geography). During the program of study, topics from all areas of geography are covered. The connection with contextual subjects such as geology, archaeology, sociology or botany allows for a more in-depth approach to certain research questions with the help of neighboring sciences and thus enables a view beyond the contents of the usual sub-disciplines of geography.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      The aim of the program of study<\/strong> is to provide basic scientific training in the subject of geography. An important component of this is the combination of theoretical and practical teaching in the lecture hall, in the laboratory and in the field. Wichtige Bestandteile sind Gel\u00e4ndetage, Praktika und Auslandsaufenthalte. Through an interdisciplinary approach, students learn the ability to identify, analyze and evaluate environmental and spatial problems. Students acquire the ability to independently access and structure scientific information and to apply their knowledge and skills in practice. Students acquire knowledge of the relevant subject-specific systematics and terminology of the geographical sub-areas (physical geography and human geography) as well as the subject-specific integration area. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
